
Nigerian Govt to Expend $1.1bn on Ports Rehabilitation - Bello Koko, MD NPA
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello Koko
, has disclosed that $1.1bn will be spent on the rehabilitation of Nigerian ports.
He said that almost all seaports in the country need a major overhaul to better position the nation for trade competitiveness.
>Koko who spoke on the occasion of the ongoing 43rd Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) conference held in Lagos, said the repair work will start from the Tin Can Island port.
He said the rehabilitation will ensure that physical infrastructure in the ports can take modern and bigger vessels calling at the ports.
>Maritime TV Africa learnt that after the reconstruction, the quay side are expected to be better as a 14 metre- draft depth is targeted to accommodate VLCCs.
Koko expressed optimism that this exercise will align Nigerian ports in competition with global ports.
