MAJOR BOOST FOR NIGERIA’S RAIL FREIGHT AS TRAXPORT TEAMS UP WITH VECTURIS

Nigeria’s freight rail sector is set for a major boost as Traxport Rail Services Ltd partners with Belgian rail operations giant Vecturis under a new Technical Support and Investment Agreement (TSIA).

The deal will inject global expertise into Traxport’s network, starting with the Lagos–Kano corridor, while rolling out LNG-powered locomotives designed to move goods—and energy products—faster, safer, and more sustainably across the country.

“This is a turning point for us,” said Emeka Ndu, Chairman of Traxport Rail Services. “Vecturis brings decades of experience that will help us overcome operational hurdles and deliver modern freight rail solutions for Nigeria.”

Vecturis CEO Eric Peiffer added, “Nigeria is one of the most promising freight rail markets in Africa. By combining our expertise with Traxport’s drive, we will set new benchmarks for performance, reliability, and sustainability.”

Beyond boosting cargo movement, the initiative promises wider benefits: less road congestion, fewer accidents, and lower carbon emissions as more goods shift from highways to rails. Industrial clusters in the South-East, North-Central, and Northern regions are expected to benefit from faster, cost-effective deliveries.

The partnership will also train Nigerian engineers, technicians, and logistics workers, creating skilled jobs and strengthening local capacity in line with the country’s push for a greener, smarter transport system.
